Privacy Policy
Information Collected
Kanji A Day does not include advertising, analytics, third-party tracking, or an account system operated by the developer. The app does not sell personal information.
The app stores the study information needed to provide its flashcard and scheduling features:
- Review history and scheduling information for studied characters, including attempt counts, correct-answer counts, review dates, next-review dates, and remembered streaks.
- Study preferences, including whether obsolete kana are included, whether Kana or Kanji appears first, the selected estimated JLPT levels, whether the getting-started guide appears prominently or at the bottom of the study screen, and whether the Daily Kanji card appears on the Home screen.
This study information is stored locally on the device. When the user is signed into iCloud and iCloud is available for the app, Apple CloudKit also stores it in the user’s private iCloud database so progress and preferences can be restored and synchronized across the user’s devices. CloudKit synchronization is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Kanji A Day uses Apple’s StoreKit for its optional in-app purchases. Purchase processing and entitlement history are managed by Apple. Purchase entitlements are not stored in the study database or included in study-data exports.
When the user opens the optional Other Apps screen, Kanji A Day first downloads a developer-authored app catalog from https://rlziii.com/projects/other-apps.json. The request does not include study progress, preferences, purchase state, contact information, or an app-generated user identifier. As with an ordinary website request, the hosting provider may process standard network information such as the device’s IP address, request date and time, and user-agent information to deliver and protect the service. Kanji A Day does not use this request for advertising, analytics, or tracking and does not associate it with study information.
Kanji A Day then sends the catalog’s App Store identifiers to Apple’s iTunes Lookup service and downloads the corresponding promotional app-icon artwork from Apple’s content-delivery network. These Apple services are subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. If the catalog or metadata lookup is unavailable, the Other Apps screen presents a retry option; individual artwork failures use a generic placeholder. The app’s study features remain available.
Data Retention and Control
Local and synchronized study information is retained so the app can preserve progress and preferences between launches and across the user’s devices. Removing the app from one device removes that installation’s local copy, but does not by itself delete study information already synchronized to the user’s private iCloud database.
The Settings screen provides the following controls:
- Export Study Data creates a portable JSON copy of the current review history, scheduling information, and study preferences, then presents Apple’s Share Sheet. The user chooses whether and where to save or share that exported file. Files saved outside Kanji A Day are controlled by the selected destination and are not deleted by the app.
- Reset Progress deletes review history and scheduling information while keeping study preferences and purchases. The deletion synchronizes through iCloud to the user’s other devices.
- Reset All Preferences returns the synchronized study preferences to their defaults while keeping progress and purchases.
- Delete Synced Study Data deletes both review history and study preferences from the device and the user’s private iCloud database. When initiated offline, the local deletion is synchronized after CloudKit becomes available. The deletion propagates to the user’s other devices. In-app purchases remain associated with the user’s App Store account and are not affected.
Users may also manage app access to iCloud through Apple’s system settings. Changes made through Apple account or iCloud data-management tools are governed by Apple and may affect whether data remains available to the app.
